Visible light-induced degradation of ethylene glycol on nitrogen-doped Ti[O.sub.2] powders
Article Abstract:
Time-resolved diffuse reflectance (TDR) and solid-state NMR spectroscopies are used to investigate the photocatalytic degradation processes of ethylene glycol (EG) during the ultraviolet (UV) or visible light irradiation of pure anatase and nitrogen (N)-doped Ti[O.sub.2] powders. The results have shown that EG is preferentially chemisorbed on the surface of the N-doped Ti[O.sub.2] powders, in contrast to the pure Ti[O.sub.2] and degrades under visible light irradiation.

Influences of adsorption on TiO2 photocatalytic one-electron oxidation of aromatic sulfides studied by time-resolved diffuse reflectance spectroscopy
Article Abstract:
TiO2 photocatalytic one-electron oxidation of 4-methyl-p-tolylsulfide (MTS), 4-(methylthio)phenyl methanol(MTPM), 4-(methylthio)benzoic acid (MTBA), and 4-(methylthio)phenyl acetic acid (MTPA) adsorbed on the surface of TiO2 powder slurried in acetonitrile (CH3CN) has been investigated by time-resolved diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The time-resolved diffuse reflectance method is a powerful tool for investigations of photocatalysts in various conditions.

Photoinduced charge separation in titania nanotubes
Article Abstract:
The photocatalytic one-electron oxidation reaction of an aromatic compound during ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation of titania nanotubes and nanoparticles is investigated by using time-resolved diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The effects of the morphology on the one-electron oxidation process of an aromatic compound adsorbed on the surface are discussed in terms of the charge recombination dynamics between the radical cation and electrons in TiO2.
